Email lists are gold. Companies pay large amounts of money to buy email lists and you may already have unconverted cash in the form of an email list in your possession.
Get The Email Address
Lets back up a bit. Whenever you take an order, you are already getting their name, address and phone number. If you are not already doing it, get your customers email address. This is extremely important. Even if you have no intention now of doing some cheap email marketing, get your customers email address now and squirrel it away in case you do decide to use it later.
Most customers will not think twice about it. If they hesitate or don’t have an email address, don’t be pushy about it. There will be plenty of other people that will easily tell you or write down their email address.
There are government rules concerning email marketing. Fortunately, if you have business relationship with a customer and they give you their email address, you won’t have any problems. Keep Info About Your Customers
At some point after the party you will want to put some basic information into some notes or even better yet, a spreadsheet. As a bare minimum, you will need to capture the first name and email address. In effect, you will probably have their email address, first and last name, address, products they purchased and any important notes that will help you remember the customer better.
This is not invasion of privacy type information you are gathering. It is merely contact information. Make sure you let your customer know that they are not obligated to give you information to be your customer. Makes sense, but some companies that collect information are anal about it. Anyway, your first thing to do is to make sure that you build trust with your customer. After all, trust and a relationship is why you want to create a customer mailing list in the first place.
